Trusted Contact Alerts Without Making Everyone Install an App
Why ordinary SMS can reduce friction when a safety check-in needs to reach someone outside the app.
Trusted Contact Alerts Without Making Everyone Install an App
If the trusted contact receives an ordinary SMS, they can be part of the plan without creating an account or installing a companion app. That simplicity can matter when contacts are older, use different phones, or only need to act when something is missed.
The recipient experience matters
Many safety products focus on the user who installs the app and overlook the person receiving an alert. A trusted contact should understand the message immediately and know what action was agreed in advance.
SMS reduces setup but not all risk
SMS works across many phones and does not depend on a matching app, but delivery can still be delayed, filtered, blocked, or unsupported in some destinations. Number formatting and carrier rules also matter.
Consent is essential
Ask someone before storing their phone number or enabling alerts to it. Explain the likely frequency and how they can tell you if they no longer want to participate.
How NinjaAssurance handles contacts
NinjaAssurance is designed so trusted contacts do not need the app. If escalation occurs, the service can send them an SMS where supported. The user's selected app language is used for contact SMS where that language is supported.
Important limits before you rely on any check-in app
NinjaAssurance is a safety check-in and communication tool. It is not an emergency, rescue, medical, security, or guaranteed monitoring service. A missed check-in does not prove that an emergency has occurred.
Notifications and SMS can be delayed, filtered, blocked, unavailable, or missed because of device settings, battery restrictions, internet or mobile-network conditions, country and carrier support, third-party providers, or service availability. In an immediate emergency, contact local emergency services directly.
Trusted contacts should consent before their phone number is stored and before SMS alerts are enabled. Keep numbers and response plans current.
Common questions
Does the contact need a smartphone?
A normal SMS-capable phone may be enough to receive an alert, subject to carrier and country support.
Can a contact opt out?
The current NinjaAssurance terms and support process address contact consent and suppression requests. Users should also remove a contact who withdraws consent.
Will the SMS include my phone number?
Review the current product behavior and privacy information. The app is designed to provide enough information for the trusted contact to know who needs checking.
Scheduled check-ins with SMS alerts to trusted contacts
Set check-in times that fit your routine. If reminders are missed and you do not confirm, NinjaAssurance can notify chosen trusted contacts by SMS where supported. They do not need the app.
