What to verify before relying on a trusted contact number in another country.

International SMS Check-In Alerts: Countries, Carriers, and Limitations
Quick answer

International SMS Check-In Alerts: Countries, Carriers, and Limitations

International SMS can work across many destinations, but support and delivery depend on the destination country, carrier, number format, provider configuration, filtering, local rules, and current service availability. Test important numbers before relying on them.

Use international number format

Store trusted-contact numbers in the format requested by the app, normally including the country code. Incorrect formatting is a common avoidable cause of message failure.

Supported country does not mean guaranteed delivery

Even when a destination is supported, individual carriers can filter or delay messages and provider routes can change. Treat the supported-country list as eligibility, not a delivery guarantee.

Language and destination are separate settings

In NinjaAssurance, contact SMS follows the language selected by the user in the app where supported. It does not automatically change based on the trusted contact's country code.

Test before an important trip or routine

If a particular international contact is important to your plan, run a controlled test and confirm receipt. Re-test after changing numbers, carriers, devices, or app settings.

Important limits before you rely on any check-in app

NinjaAssurance is a safety check-in and communication tool. It is not an emergency, rescue, medical, security, or guaranteed monitoring service. A missed check-in does not prove that an emergency has occurred.

Notifications and SMS can be delayed, filtered, blocked, unavailable, or missed because of device settings, battery restrictions, internet or mobile-network conditions, country and carrier support, third-party providers, or service availability. In an immediate emergency, contact local emergency services directly.

Trusted contacts should consent before their phone number is stored and before SMS alerts are enabled. Keep numbers and response plans current.
